Proper care ensures your Wild Wood Blades knife will last for generations. Our Damascus steel blades are handcrafted with natural materials, requiring some simple but important steps to maintain their beauty, performance, and longevity.
Can I put my knife in the dishwasher?
Absolutely not.
Dishwashers can cause serious damage—not just to your knife, but to anyone unloading it. The intense heat and harsh detergents will strip away protective oils, damage the blade, and potentially crack natural or synthetic handles.
Most of our knives are high-carbon Damascus steel, which will rust if left wet. Always:
Hand wash with warm water and mild soap
Dry immediately with a soft cloth
Avoid abrasive pads (they can scratch or dull the blade and remove the etching)
Our wooden handles are just as handcrafted as the blades. To prevent drying or cracking:
Use a natural Danish oil like Tried & True or linseed oil.
Apply with a lint-free cloth or paper towel.
Let sit for 20–30 minutes and wipe off excess.
Ensure the handle is fully dry before storing.
💡 Bonus Tip: The same food-safe knife oil you use for your blade can be used on the handle to keep the wood conditioned.
Damascus steel is part performance tool, part art piece. It will naturally form a patina over time—a dark layer that protects against rust and adds unique character.
Always hand wash and dry immediately
Avoid prolonged contact with acidic foods (like citrus or vinegar)
Do not store the knife in the sheath for long periods—opt for a dry place or the wooden presentation box
If rust appears, it’s treatable. Start gently and increase as needed:
Old scrub pad + mild soap: Rub with the grain of the blade.
Powdered scrubbing compound: Use with the same pad if rust remains.
New pad + powder: If still rusted, try a fresh pad with the compound.
Rust remover (as last resort): Be cautious—this may dull the edge and fade the etched Damascus pattern.
Oiling is optional after every use, but doing it regularly helps prevent discoloration and rust.
At Wild Wood Blades, we recommend our premium blade oil, crafted from:
Mineral oil
Camellia oil
Vitamin E
All food-safe, all protective, all designed to keep your knife in top shape.
