The “Kimura” gets its name from a real warrior: Kimura Shigenari, a 17th-century samurai whose bravery wasn’t just talked about—it was remembered.
At only 21, Kimura took command during the Winter Siege of Osaka. He led his troops fearlessly, and his dedication caught the eye of Hideyori, who honored him with a sword forged by none other than the legendary Masamune. But in a gesture that says a lot about his character, Kimura gave the blade back—not because he didn’t want it, but out of loyalty.
He returned to the battlefield during the Summer Siege. Sadly, it didn’t end well. He was captured and executed. But even in death, he kept his dignity—his hair was neatly trimmed, and incense was placed in his helmet. He knew what was coming and faced it like a true samurai.
This modern “Kimura” tanto doesn’t pretend to be an antique. Instead, it blends tradition with bold new design. With a strong tanto tip, partial saw edge, and finger-grooved handle, it feels just as ready for action as it does for display.
It’s made using a mix of 1095 and 15n20 high-carbon steels and shaped into a twist-pattern Damascus that’s as durable as it is eye-catching.
Every Kimura knife is handmade—and because we use natural materials, every single one is going to have its own quirks. You might notice a swirl in the Damascus or a different shade in the handle. That’s not a flaw. It’s personality. It’s yours.
We make those by hand too. So while the sheath you get will serve its purpose and match the knife, it might not look exactly like the one in the photo. Different pieces of leather age and color differently. If you’re picky (we get it), just reach out—we’re happy to walk you through what’s in stock.
This knife is made from 1095 high-carbon steel—tough stuff, but it can rust if ignored. Thankfully, maintenance is pretty simple:
Follow those steps, and this blade will keep its edge—and its good looks—for years to come.
