In the early 1800s, a man named Hugh Glass carved his legacy into the American wilderness. During General Ashley’s 1823 Missouri River expedition, Glass and his crew were ambushed by the Arikara tribe—most didn’t make it out. Later, while scouting ahead, Glass stumbled upon a mother grizzly and her cubs. What happened next nearly killed him.
Left for dead after the brutal mauling, he crawled more than 200 miles back to Fort Kiowa—alone. That kind of grit? It’s rare. It’s also the spirit behind our handcrafted hunting knife, made for those who don’t quit when things get rough.
This knife isn’t just a tool—it’s a nod to the old frontier. The 7.5" blade features a traditional drop point that makes quick work of anything from dressing game to splitting kindling. It’s sharp, dependable, and built to take a beating. A solid stainless steel bolster adds security so your hand doesn’t slip, while the tali wood handle feels solid and warm in your grip—even with gloves on. At just 11 ounces (without the sheath) and 12 inches long, it’s hefty enough to handle serious tasks without weighing you down.
We also custom-built an underarm sheath that keeps it protected from the elements and ready to draw when you need it most. No digging through your pack—just grab and go.
Every blade is forged using traditional Japanese techniques that date back centuries. The San Mai steel construction—layering a D2 steel core between two tough stainless outer layers—means this knife can take real punishment in the wild. The high-carbon D2 keeps a wicked edge, while the outer stainless steel helps protect against rust. With a little care—just drying it off and oiling it once in a while—you’ll have a blade that stays sharp and ready for the long haul.
No two knives are exactly alike. That’s part of what makes yours special. The natural grain in the wood, the subtle shifts in the steel’s finish—those aren’t flaws, they’re the signs of a true handmade tool. You’ll get the same high quality we show in our photos, but with a knife that’s uniquely yours.
We use different batches of leather and stitching styles for the sheaths, depending on what’s available and what suits the blade best. So the one you get might look a little different than the photos—but it'll be tough, durable, and built to last. If you’ve got questions, feel free to reach out. We’re happy to help.
D2 steel is a beast when it comes to edge retention—but it’s high-carbon, so it’ll rust if you ignore it. After using your knife, rinse it with warm water and mild soap, dry it completely, and rub in a bit of oil on the blade and handle. It takes just a minute and keeps your knife looking—and cutting—like new.
