Charles Lightoller’s journey started in hardship and turned into heroism. Born in 1874, he lost his mother to smallpox as an infant. By age 10, his father had left for New Zealand, leaving him to be raised by relatives. With no shortage of grit, he joined a sailing ship at just thirteen and began carving out a life at sea. Over time, his hard-earned skills took him from deckhand to officer aboard the ill-fated RMS Titanic.
During the Titanic’s tragic final hours, Lightoller showed what he was made of. He worked tirelessly to help load lifeboats, prioritizing women and children before taking a final leap into the freezing Atlantic. Clinging to a capsized lifeboat through the night, he somehow survived until rescue.
But his story didn’t end there. Back in England, he joined the Royal Navy and served with distinction in World War I. When World War II erupted, Lightoller was already retired—but when British soldiers were stranded at Dunkirk, he didn’t hesitate. He took his own small motorboat across the Channel, braved enemy air attacks, and brought back 127 soldiers to safety.
It’s that fearless spirit that inspired us to create the Lightoller Damascus Steel EDC Folding Knife—a compact, everyday tool built to honor a man who never backed down.
Small in size, big in attitude. This EDC knife might not take up much space in your pocket, but it’s got the soul of a workhorse. Whether you're slicing rope, cutting through cardboard, or just tackling your daily grind, it’s always ready to roll.
Named for a man of action, the Lightoller knife blends utility with timeless design. The blade features a striking Damascus steel pattern—crafted from 1095 and 15n20 high-carbon steel—and the handle is made from smooth, polished Rosewood that feels sturdy and comfortable in hand. Whether you’re a lefty or righty, the ambidextrous setup means it works for everyone.
Its liner-lock mechanism keeps the blade securely in place while still being easy to carry. Slip it into your pocket, pack, or glove box—it’s always within reach when you need it.
Each knife is hand-forged using natural materials, so no two are exactly alike. The Damascus pattern will vary slightly, and the Rosewood handle might differ in tone—but that’s the charm. You’re not getting a cookie-cutter product—you’re getting a piece with personality.
The sheath included with your knife may differ a bit from the one pictured. It’s made from full-grain leather, but color and design can vary slightly depending on the batch. Have a question before ordering? Reach out to us—we’re happy to walk you through the details.
The blade is made from 1095 high-carbon steel. That’s great news for edge retention, but it also means the knife can rust if not cared for. To keep it in tip-top shape:
A little maintenance goes a long way—and it ensures your knife stays as sharp and dependable as the man it was named after.
